Consumer Unit Trust Zambia CUTS has welcomed the intentions by Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation ZESCO to buy smart meters.
CUTS Zambia Country Director Chenai Mukumba says in as much as the institution applauds the ZESCO initiative of smart meters, the organization has questioned the timing of the investment in view of the pressing needs the country is facing economically.
Ms Mukumba says government should at this time of serious injuries to the economy be focusing of needy sectors such as social protection and boosting small businesses to help reunite the economy.
She has however expressed hope that the smart meters devices will try to help the efficiency delivery of the service to Zambians.
