Fire has swept through Lusaka’s COMESA Market destroying property worth millions of Kwacha.

A Komboni Radio News crew which rushed to the scene last night found scores of onlookers and traders trying to salvage what had remained in the inferno while fire fighters were struggling to put out the fire.

The fire is believed to have started around 19:40 hours.

A combined team of fire fighters from the Lusaka City Council, Zambia Air Force and Zambia Airports Corporations had a tough time putting out the fire due to lack of access roads to enter the market.

Local Government Minister Vincent Mwale who rushed to the scene had a tough time trying to mobilize a Grader to clear the way for the fire engines to have access to the roads.

The visibly disturbed Minister expressed sadness at the fire that broke out at the market saying traders will find it hard to fend for their families as selling was the only source of income for some traders.

By broadcast time the cause of the fire had not yet been established.

The fire at COMESA market comes barely less than twenty four hours after fire swept through BUTEKO market in Mufulira destroying property worth millions of Kwacha.
