CITY MARKET TRADERS ASK COUNCIL TO ALLOW THEM CONTINUE TRADING IN THE GUTTED MARKET

Traders who lost their merchandise in the inferno that swept through Lusaka’s City Market on Tuesday have appealed to the council to allow them to continue with their businesses in the gutted trading place.

The traders have charged that allowing renovations to take place before business can resume will affect them as they do not have other sources of income.

One of the traders only identified as Wilson told Komboni radio that the marketeers are willing to clear the rubble and continue with their businesses.

Meanwhile, other traders have charged that the fire that broke out yesterday in the market could be an indication of the porous security they have been complaining about.

The traders also demanded that a thorough investigation is done to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Some traders have continued to conduct their businesses outside the gutted City Market.

A check by Komboni radio news yesterday found some traders selling their various goods as police kept vigil.

The other traders by broadcast time waited anxiously to be addressed by officials from the Lusaka City Council and Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit who were locked up in a meeting.
