Governance activist Leslie Chikuse has bemoaned the cases of violence that were recorded in the recently held local government by-elections.

Mr Chikuse says it is unfortunate that elections in the country have continued to be characterized with violence and corruption.

He has charged that political violence contributed to voter apathy as electorates fear to turn up at polling stations.

Mr Chikuse who is also Republican Progressive Party Vice Presidents has charged that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is partly to blame for the political violence due to its failure to implement the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Meanwhile, Mr Chikuse says the performance of the ruling PF in the just ended by-elections is not a reflection of how the party might perform in the 2021 elections.
