The Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) has expressed disappointment over reports of members of the public being brutalized by members of the defence forces who have been deployed to clean up the city.

Party President Sean Tembo says his party has received first hand complaints from elderly women who have been severely beaten and assaulted by soldiers for merely selling merchandise such as Salaula at their homes.

Mr Tembo has since challenged government to clearly state whether it is government’s policy to instruct defence personnel to beat up poor and innocent citizens in the name of fighting cholera.

He says it is unfortunate that innocent citizens are being brutalized for merely trying to make a living in their respective compounds after being chased from trading in the Central Business District.
