17 YEAR OLD BOY DROWNS IN A QUARRYING DITCH IN KAMWALA SOUTH

A 17 year old boy has drowned in a quarrying ditch in Kamwala south.

The deceased who has been identified as Manzuzo Ngoma met his fate this morning around 10 hours as he was trying to pick empty bottles from the ditch that is also used as a dumping site by residents.

An Eye witness Anastasia Kaunda narrated to a Komboni Radio News crew that rushed to the scene that she saw the boy drown as she was playing near by the quarrying ditch.

And some relatives who were found at the scene expressed shock over the development.

By broadcast time, the body of the deceased had not yet been retrieved.

And residents of Kamwala South have called upon relevant authorities to quickly find a lasting solution to the quarrying ditches that have continued to claim lives in that community.

Meanwhile, Kamwala Ward five area councilor Moses Bwalya who was also at the scene expressed sadness over the development.

The civic leader has disclosed that he has engaged the owners of the land to ensure that the ditch is buried in order to prevent loss of lives.
