11 YEAR OLD BOY DIES ON THE SPOT AFTER BEING HIT BY FLYING STONES FROM A BLASTING QUARRY

An 11 year old boy has died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries after they were hit by flying stones from a stone blasting quarry in Katombola area of Kazungula district.

 Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo who confirmed the sad development to Komboni radio News says the quarry belongs to a retired Colonel Adam Jansen Mwandila operating in partnership with Shi-Hai-Feng, a Chinese national.

Mrs Katongo explained that the incident happened yesterday around 09 hours when the juveniles were passing, 50 meters from the blasting.

She disclosed that the deceased had a ripped stomach, a cut on the head and had broken ribs, while the survivors aged 6, 4 and 7 years sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to Livingstone Central Hospital for treatment.

Mrs Katongo says two of the three boys were treated and discharged while one is still admitted in hospital due to serious injuries sustained.

And the police spokesperson disclosed that after the incident, irate villagers ran amok and started throwing stones breaking wind screens to company machinery and window panes to offices.

She says the value of damage caused is not yet established.

Mrs Katongo explained that calm only returned after police were deployed to the area.
